The prize is awarded annually for the three best scientific PhD theses written between April and March. Nominations are made by the deans of the natural science departments.

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation promotes peace, freedom and justice through political education in Germany and abroad. It promotes and preserves liberal democracy, the social market economy and the development and consolidation of a consensus on values. The application deadline is for those with a German education.
Goethe University Graduation Scholarships are awarded to international BA, MA and state-examination students who need financial support while they are writing their theses or preparing for the state examination. Applications should be submitted via an online portal. One letter of recommendation is required.
