Master's Program Religion - Media - Interculturality

Interpreting Religion. Designing Media. Understanding Cultures.

What's the Master about?

The master’s program Religion – Media – Interculturality explores, from a theological perspective, how religion evolves under the conditions of globalization, digitization, and cultural diversity. The focus is on the intercultural expressions of Christianity, its interreligious connections, and the ways religious content is communicated today across different media contexts.

The course combines theological thinking, interdisciplinary research, and global horizons. You examine the relationship between religion and the public sphere, how beliefs are conveyed, and how differences in pluralistic societies can be constructively addressed.

The master’s degree prepares you for roles that require theological reflection, intercultural competence, and media communication skills.

Main questions you will focus on

The master's program explores religious, societal, and media transformation processes in a globally connected and pluralistic world. Key questions are: How do media and digitization shape religious communication? How does religion influence society and the public sphere? How can faith-based content be conveyed convincingly today? What makes intercultural and interreligious coexistence successful? How is Christianity lived and shaped in different ways around the world?

Why pursue this master’s degree?

Religion is changing – through globalisation, digitisation, and cultural diversity. This is precisely where the master’s program Religion – Media – Interculturality comes in.

In this program, you will explore current questions at the intersection of theology, media, and interculturality: How is religion communicated today? What role does it play in public life and society? And how is faith evolving in digitally and globally interconnected environments?

The master’s program provides you with research-oriented knowledge, theological discernment, and intercultural competence. You will analyze religious, media, and societal transformation processes and learn to critically and forward-thinkingly interpret them.

For anyone who wants to understand, reflect on, and actively shape religion in today’s world.
