Habilitation

at Faculty 08

General Information

Habilitation procedures at Faculty 08 are conducted in the disciplines represented within the faculty, further specialization within these fields is possible.

The Habilitation serves as proof of a candidate’s qualification (Facultas Docendi) for independent academic research and teaching. Information on the requirements for admission can be found in the Habilitation Regulations of Faculty 08 (see §§ 2 and 3).

The Venia Legendi (authorisation to teach) is the formal permission to teach and examine independently. It is granted upon successful completion of the Habilitation and entitles the candidate to use the title private lecturer (“Privatdozent”) (see § 15).

Please note that there are no fixed deadlines for initiating the procedure. As a rule, the Faculty Council decides on the opening of the procedure no later than two months after the application has been submitted to the Dean’s Office. An overview of Faculty Council meeting dates can be found here.
