Research, grow, network – Goethe University supports early and mid-career researchers in shaping their careers individually. Discover programs, networks, and contact points that will help you move forward.

At Goethe University, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers in the qualification phase are referred to as Early Career Researchers (ECRs). We offer targeted support and preparation for a variety of career paths, along with excellent conditions for your professional development and academic qualification.

Below you will find links to all institutions that support you as a Doctoral Researcher (R1), Postdoc (R2), or Senior Postdoc (R3) at Goethe University. If you have specific questions, the Goethe Research Academy for Early Career Researchers will be happy to assist you as your first point of contact.

GRADE

GRADE is Goethe University’s central institution for researchers in phases R1 to R3. We offer an extensive training program, individual coaching, networking and social events, as well as advice on career planning and funding opportunities.

If you’re looking for more specific support, you can also find below additional university offices and initiatives that are particularly relevant for you as a doctoral candidate, postdoc, or R3 researcher:

Research Support (RS)

Research Support is the central point of contact for questions about research projects, academic career development, and knowledge transfer. It brings together all administrative services related to the lifecycle of externally funded projects.

Goethe Welcome Centre (GWC)

The Goethe Welcome Centre is the central hub for international researchers at Goethe University. We offer comprehensive advice, support for families, and a wide range of services to help with integration, networking, and language learning.

Johanna Quandt Young Academy (JQYA)

The JQYA at Goethe University supports outstanding postdoctoral researchers through interdisciplinary exchange, scientific networking, and individual mentoring – fostering creative ideas, new perspectives, and academic independemce.

Learning and Development Department (L&D)

The L&D department strengthens skills, leadership, and collaboration at Goethe University. Through practice-oriented, research-based programs, we support learning, professional development, and future readiness for all university staff.

Equal Opportunities Office (BfC)

Interdisciplinary Center for university teaching & learning

The IKH is dedicated to the professionalization of teaching at Goethe University. It offers higher education didactics training for teaching staff and encourages disciplinary and interdisciplinary exchange as well as networking among all educators.
