Course content and focus areas

The one-year master's program at the Historical Seminar of Goethe University Frankfurt builds on a four-year bachelor's degree and equips students, as part of the second qualification level, to meet the challenges of the modern knowledge society.

The degree program is designed to span across epochs, enabling students to gain in-depth insights from the history of pre-Greek cultures to contemporary history. During the research-oriented master's program, students develop the ability to investigate, explain, and present a complex historical topic in various formats. Core competencies in academic work are enhanced through a series of courses and then applied in a specific research project.

A key focus of the degree program is fostering the ability to work independently and responsibly with diverse knowledge resources, allowing students to conduct extensive research and process, understand, and organize a wide range of information.
