The aim of the program is to provide professional training for physicians with comprehensive theoretical and practical education, enabling them to practice medicine independently and responsibly, pursue continuing education, and engage in ongoing further training. At the same time, medical studies also serve as scientific education, equipping physicians to formulate scientific questions, understand research methods for addressing these issues, and critically discuss findings. These skills are essential for evaluating new research results and implementing them in the best interest of patients in their medical practice.

The Frankfurt Faculty of Medicine enjoys a strong international reputation for its research focus areas, particularly in cardiovascular medicine, neurosciences, oncology/immunology, and translational drug research.

The Faculty of Medicine has completely revised and restructured its curriculum. The goals of this redesign were:

  • Aligning course content with the needs of practicing physicians as well as the research focus areas of our faculty
  • Increasing motivation among students and faculty
  • Reducing (big-city) anonymity by integrating students into small groups and fostering a sense of identity within the university and faculty
  • Encouraging students’ initiative
  • Promoting independent scientific work
  • Ensuring compatibility with international standards in medical education
  • Enhancing the practical relevance of the training
  • Strengthening psychosocial skills in the physician-patient relationship

To achieve these goals, the program content has been organized cross-disciplinary into thematic blocks. Selected clinical conditions are emphasized from the very beginning of the preclinical phase of study. Foundational topics are presented alongside increasingly complex subjects in a logically structured sequence, offered in an interdisciplinary format. The Frankfurt training objective is for students to independently diagnose common and critical conditions requiring immediate treatment before entering their practical year, initiate therapeutic measures, and manage patient care.
