Course content and focus areas
The consecutive master's program builds on a bachelor's degree in sociology and offers research-oriented education in the sociological analysis of the modern economy within its social and historical contexts. From a social science perspective, the social, cultural, institutional, and political fundamentals and connections of economic actions and processes are examined. Key thematic areas include markets, employment, the culture of economics, and the institutional embedding of transnational economic processes. A particular focus is placed on the study of actors and processes in global financial markets. Frankfurt am Main, as one of the most important European hubs for the global financial industry, and the Rhine-Main region as a metropolitan area and logistics center, provide ideal starting points for analyzing questions in economic sociology.
