Course content and focus areas

The one-year master's program builds on the four-year bachelor's program. It provides advanced academic education in Latin Philology, which is generally oriented toward the study of classical antiquity and serves as an academic qualification for various careers. The program aims to give students a deeper understanding of ancient culture through exemplary subjects. Special attention is given to the cultural-historical connections between Greco-Roman antiquity and subsequent periods of European culture. The discipline is closely related to other fields of classical studies but is distinguished by its primarily linguistic and literary perspective and its specific methods, which also connect it to other linguistic and literary disciplines. The master's program particularly prepares students for further academic qualifications.
