The B.A./B.Sc. in Natural and Life Sciences combines a two-semester orientation phase with six semesters of studies in a particular subject. You can either continue directly into one of the seven cooperating branches of study or switch to a different subject after the orientation phase.
The orientation phase is designed to support you in making a well-informed and sustainable choice for your field of study.
Over the course of two semesters, the orientation phase provides insights into various disciplines and academic cultures, offering a 360° perspective on student life and university experiences. During the first semester, after a personal consultation, you can choose to focus on either physics or chemistry in the foundational area and select two out of seven specialization options. In the specialization area, you’ll experience two disciplines firsthand, both in theory and practice, and have the opportunity to compare the requirements of different fields and academic cultures. Beyond these structured orientation offerings, the Free Study module allows you to explore individually and cross-disciplinary by selecting courses from a catalog based on your personal interests. Additionally, in the orientation module, you’ll acquire essential practical skills in the natural sciences (including scientific ethics, mathematics, critical data analysis, writing, and teamwork) and gain initial insights into potential career paths through career-oriented events.
This process, supported by reflection, mentoring, and guidance, helps you gradually focus on your branch of study. By potentially having your achievements from the orientation phase recognized, you can create flexibility in your later studies, which you can use to further refine your personal academic profile.
