Frankfurt Citizens' University

Winter Semester 2025/2026

Dear friends of Goethe University,

What role has Mathematics played in the history of societal change, and what role does it continue to play today? With their event on this topic, mathematicians from our university contribute to a thematic focus that holds a prominent place in the current program of the Citizens' University. It addresses our society under pressure, the causes of authoritarian developments, social inequality, climate ethics and justice, our constitutional statutes and international law, current conflicts, and — yes, even this — the concept of compromise.

The Deutsche Bank Visiting Fellowship Endowment "Science and Society" explores what happens when the intellectual movement of humanism intersects with globalization: Is a constructive coexistence possible?

We would also like to draw your attention to the new Monika Schoeller Lectureship for Literary Translation, which is now taking place for the second time and will alternate with the Poetics Lecture.

Discover the latest developments in pharmaceutical research through the Friedrich Merz Visiting Fellowship Endowment, featuring Raymond Deshaies, the US pioneer of modern pharmaceutical research. And an exciting new format in the field of medical topics at the Citizens' University is particularly intriguing: The CoBIC Brain Research Center combines scientific lectures with classical concerts.

Whether it’s a book presentation, lecture, panel discussion, science talk, exhibition, film, or guided tour — choose from the wide range of topics offered by the Citizens' University. We wish you inspiring insights, enriching conversations, and plenty of enjoyment!

Science Talk “Wissen angezapft”

Two researchers, one moderator, a counter, changing locations, live music — “Wissen angezapft” (Knowledge on Tap) brings it all together. It's about research and people, breakthroughs and flops. And about what drives people to expand their knowledge.
