Claudius Wagemann ist seit Juli 2012 Professor an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt. Er hat an der Universität Konstanz studiert und am Europäischen Hochschulinstitut Florenz bei Philippe C. Schmitter 2005 promoviert. Es folgten Stationen am Istituto italiano di scienze umane (SUM, Florenz, heute Scuola Normale di Pisa) und am Florentiner Programm der New York University.
Claudius Wagemanns Forschungsagenda ist vor allem methodisch ausgerichtet. Neben der Publikation von breiten Methodenhand- und -lehrbüchern sind hier fallvergleichende qualitativ-empirische Verfahren zu nennen, vor allem Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), aber auch andere mengentheoretische Ansätze. Ein jüngstes methodisches Forschungsinteresse richtet sich auf die Verwendung empirischer Methoden in der Politikwissenschaft.
Inhaltlich hat sich Claudius Wagemann mit Verbänden und Protestbewegungen, sowie der Demokratiequalität, beschäftigt.
Seine Arbeiten sind bei Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Springer, Routledge und in zahlreichen Zeitschriften erschienen. Er legt besonderen Wert auf einen internationalen Arbeitsbezug.
