About us

In our research and teaching, we place great emphasis on reflecting on the responsibility of science, especially with regard to global power inequalities, colonialism, and their lasting consequences such as exploitation, racism, and oppression.

Anthropological knowledge is gaining new significance in an age of expanding global economic interdependence, ecological crises and global conflicts, and, at the same time, growing neo-nationalist developments and radical counter-movements.

The Department of Anthropology maintains a wide range of collaborations that make studying and researching in Frankfurt particularly attractive.

Library of Cultural Anthropology

The Frankfurt Frobenius Library of Cultural Anthropology is the most significant specialist library for Social and Cultural Anthropology in the German-speaking world.

Equal Opportunities & Diversity

Our code of conduct “Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination in Department 08” as well as contact points and committees can be found here.
