Excellent Teaching
The CHE regularly surveys students at universities across Germany and compiles rankings on the quality of teaching. Frankfurt’s Geography program consistently performs exceptionally well: the undergraduate program was recently ranked among the top group, a distinction achieved by only five other institutes (out of 40) in Germany alongside Frankfurt. Our central goal is to guide students toward a critical and reflective perspective on the world, grounded in geography. Reflecting the size of Frankfurt’s Geography department, the range of courses offered is broad: an undergraduate program with two distinct degrees, as well as two master’s programs that provide excellent opportunities for bachelor’s graduates to pursue advanced studies.

Professional Practice
Our undergraduate program is designed to provide the best foundation for pursuing a master’s degree. Early specialization after the first academic year and project-based learning, including opportunities to gain research experience during the undergraduate program, are key components. Additionally, we place great importance on ensuring that students are well-prepared for the job market even after completing their bachelor’s degree. To this end, we integrate alumni into the program—former Geography students who now hold leadership positions in significant geographic fields such as urban and regional planning, economic development, real estate and property management, mobility services, and management consultancy, to name just a few examples from human geography. For those with a focus on physical geography, career paths include soil and nature conservation, landscape, land-use, and environmental planning, geomonitoring, and the development and implementation of environmental management and environmental control systems.
