Plan and Organize your Course of Study

Swapping university places

Swapping university places gives you the opportunity to exchange your spot with someone else—provided certain conditions are met. This option is only available for programs with admission restrictions starting from the second semester. You'll handle finding a swap partner, but we’re here to help with all the essential information you need!

Switching Majors or Degree Prog. / Dual Enrollment

Are you thinking about changing your major or degree program, or adding another field of study during your time at university?

You can submit an application for a program or major change, or for dual enrollment, online through the Goethe Campus portal. Just log in with your student account and navigate to the "Study Programs" section under "Application for Admission." From there, you'll be guided step by step through the online application process.

If you’ve chosen a subject or degree program without admission restrictions, you can immediately apply for online enrollment through the Goethe Campus portal and upload the required documents. Once all your documents have been received, your subject will be promptly updated or supplemented. For subjects or degree programs with admission restrictions, you’ll need to wait for the selection process to be completed first. If you’re offered admission, you can proceed with online enrollment after accepting your spot.

Important:
Make sure you’ve already re-registered for the next semester by this point—otherwise, enrollment in the new or additional subject or degree program won’t be possible.

Leave of Absence

Sometimes, life circumstances make it difficult to continue your studies as planned. In certain cases, you can apply for a sabbatical semester.

  • Application deadlines: April 30 (for the summer semester), October 31 (for the winter semester).
  • If you're unable to study due to illness during the semester, you can still apply, provided a doctor certifies that you’ve been unable to study for at least six weeks.

Part-Time Studies

At Goethe University, you have the option to complete your degree through part-time studies. To qualify, you must be within the standard period of study, your specific study semester must not have any admission restrictions (you can check here), and the study and examination regulations for your chosen program must allow part-time enrollment (find your examination regulations here).

  • Application deadlines: May 1 (for the summer semester) and November 1 (for the winter semester).
