Gender Equality

Promotion and Consulting

Research

In recent years, Goethe University has stepped up its efforts to promote gender equality in academia: female academics have access to a wide range of career development opportunities through targeted mentoring, training and coaching programs; managers' gender and diversity skills have been and continue to be strengthened.

Gender & Diversity Consulting

Gender & Diversity Consulting is an advisory service offered by the Equal Opportunities Office and is aimed at faculties, research alliances, and individual scientists. Faculties are supported in the conception and implementation of targeted gender equality and diversity measures. Consulting for research alliances includes support with proposals and the implementation of gender and diversity equality measures in joint research projects.

Administration

The professional development of employees in administrative and technical areas is supported by a wide range of equality-oriented services.

Here you will find counseling and consulting, the newsletter "GleichstellungsImpulse" (German) as well as materials, events, networks, and other points of contact.

Gender Equality Officers

Tasks

The Gender Equality Officer acts in an advisory capacity in equal opportunities-oriented structural and development planning as well as in all personnel decisions at Goethe University. The aim is to work closely with the Equal Opportunities Office to support the establishment of gender-equitable and anti-discriminatory structures and processes at the university, to develop a gender-equitable academic and organisational culture and to promote the individual potential of underrepresented genders in particular. She supports the university in updating and implementing the Equal Opportunities Action Plan and the Gender Equality & Diversity Action Plans (GEDAP) of the faculties.

Goals

The aim is to work closely with her deputies, the Faculty Gender Equality Officers and advisors, and the team of the Equal Opportunities Office to help establish gender-equitable and anti-discriminatory structures and processes at the university, develop a gender-equitable scientific and organizational culture, and strengthen the individual potential of underrepresented genders in particular.

Target Groups and Responsibilities

The Gender Equality Officer, Dr. Anja Wolde, is the primary contact person for female researchers and students and for the implementation of equality in research, teaching, and studies. The Deputy Gender Equality Officer, Ulrike Schneider-Gladbach, is responsible for the target group of administrative and technical staff. She works on projects and measures to improve equal opportunities in administration.

In cases of gender-based or sexualized discrimination and violence, Annemarie Eifler is the direct point of contact for employees, while the Anti-Discrimination Center is the point of contact for students.

Faculty Gender Equality Officers

In coordination with the Gender Equality Officer, the Faculty Gender Equality Officers work towards the implementation of equality in their respective areas. They are elected by the women of the respective faculty or central unit for a term of office of two years and, on behalf of the Gender Equality Officer, perform tasks and exercise participation rights, for example in committee work, appointment and recruitment procedures.

Gender Equality Monitoring

Gender Equality monitoring is indispensable in order to be able to speak about equality in an informed way at the university and to make data-based decisions.

This applies to both the planning and evaluation of structural measures and funding activities: Where is there progress, where is there stagnation? How does this compare to universities nationwide? Where can we do better?

GEDAPs

The faculties have an important part in the development and implementation of equal opportunities at Goethe University.

Faculty-specific development goals and measures are identified with the faculties within the so-called GEDAPs and connected to the strategy and development agreements of the Executive Board and the faculties in the area 'VI Equal Opportunities'.
