Important information at a glance
Geography is a field of science that explores the Earth's surface, focusing on its spatial differences, physical characteristics, and its role as a space for human life and activity. In schools, the subject is called "Geography," and it is also the name of the field of study in degree programs L2, L3, and L5. Geography examines both natural and societal structures and processes that shape and organize the physical environment as well as the spatial aspects of human interactions and communities. Within the discipline, Physical Geography and Human Geography have developed into relatively independent branches, each with its own questions and methods. Despite their differences, these branches work closely together to address various issues, such as geoecology, energy systems, or sustainable regional development.
The geography program with the First State Examination for teaching at middle and secondary schools aims to prepare students to teach geography independently, with a critical perspective, while adhering to the principles of enlightenment and empowerment-oriented general education. To achieve this, insights from the study of educational and social sciences are intended to be applied to the study of geography. Experiences gained in various practical settings (subject-specific: project seminars, on-site seminars; school-related: practical teaching studies) serve as reference points and starting points for the academic study of the subject.
