L1 Teaching at Elementary Schools

The Elementary Teacher Training program (L1) prepares students for teaching in elementary schools and culminates in the First State Examination.

The degree program includes courses in educational sciences, primary-level teaching methods, aesthetic education, the core subjects of German and Mathematics, as well as the option to choose one of the following subjects: English, Protestant Religion, Catholic Religion, Art, Music, General Studies, or Physical Education. Students select one of these subjects as their "major subject," which involves more in-depth study. The standard period of study, including the First State Examination, is three and a half years.
