Important information at a glance
The program provides the theoretical and practical foundations needed for teaching French at middle and high schools. The French field of study focuses on the French language and its variations, as well as French and Francophone literature and cultures. A key emphasis of the program is on how to effectively teach these topics to students using subject-specific teaching methods.

This program has no admission restrictions. Applicants for programs without admission restrictions can enroll directly through the online application. If additional documents are required for your application, you will be informed at the end of the online application process.
Applicants (for the first semester) who wish to pursue a degree at Goethe University Frankfurt leading to the First State Examination for Teaching at Secondary Schools (L2) or High Schools (L3) in the subjects French, Spanish, or Italian must demonstrate the required foreign language proficiency when applying for the respective partial program.
The proof must be included with the application for admission; otherwise, enrollment in the partial program will not be possible.

The IRSL language test is offered twice a year. The test date for the summer semester takes place in the first half of December of the previous year, and the test date for the winter semester takes place in the first half of June of the same year. Registration is available on the following page (link) no later than December 1 for the summer semester test and no later than June 1 for the winter semester test. Exact test dates will be announced in advance, at least three weeks before the test, on the IRSL website and in the LSF system.

Registration for the language tests is handled at the "Romance Studies Information Office," IG Tower, 5th floor, Room 5.156 (Tel. 069 798 32188). Please check the homepage of the Romance Studies department for current office hours. Personal registration is required.
