BA American Studies

BA American Studies:
The focus of the BA American Studies at Goethe University is on the literature, culture, and history of the United States of America. Across introduction classes, lectures, and seminars, we analyze literary texts, media, and historical sources from colonial times to the present, and discuss their complex meanings. We open to view the different actors, social situations, institutions, cultural eras and developments, and historical and political decisions that have shaped North America. Students thus obtain important knowledge about the transcultural importance of American literatures, cultures, and histories and develop a sense of the interdisciplinary value of their object as well as the methods and theories employed in American Studies.
