The Department of New Literatures and Cultures (NELK) focusses on
Anglophone literatures and cultures from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean,
Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Oceania as well as migrant writing
from the United Kingdom. Teaching and scholarship at the department
stress a comparative approach grounded in cultural studies, and thus
emphasize the role of English as a global literary language, the
transnational and transcultural dimensions of cultures and literatures
in English, as well as their role in different articulations of
modernity around the world.
