Publication of the Dissertation §15

  1. The dissertation is to be published in letterpress or photographic print, as a chapter in a collected volume, or in academic journals. The dissertation is, as a general rule, to be published in an unrevised form yet with consideration of potential requirements for revision. Publication in a shortened or altered form is subject to approval.
  2. The obligatory copies of the accepted version of the dissertation must be provided within two years. With proper justification, the deadline may be extended to five years. The obligatory copies must contain, on the title page or a supplementary page, all information listed in the formula found in the appendix of the Regulations for Doctoral Study, Dr. theol., as well as a dissertation abstract which has been approved by the advisor and which may not exceed one page and which is for the purpose of publication. The author’s curriculum vitae shall be appended.
  3. Five obligatory copies shall be provided free of charge to the faculty. One of these copies will be given to the faculty’s library. The responsibility for distribution of the remaining copies falls to the dean, though the readers who provided evaluations of the dissertation are to be considered.
  4. Aside from five obligatory copies for the faculty, the following copies are to be provided free of charge:

Either:

  • 150 copies in letterpress or photographic printing for the purpose of distribution, or
  • 3 copies if the publication occurred in an academic journal, or
  • 3 copies if a commercial publisher undertakes the distribution and a printing of at least 150 copies can be documented, or
  • 3 copies in typeface capable of being copied, along with the chief copy and 150 additional copies in microfiche format. In such a case, the doctoral candidate transfers to the university the right of making additional copies in microfiche format and subsequently distributing them.

Completion of Studies §14

  1. Following the delivery of the obligatory copies and the review of the final version or after the submission of a document certifying that a publisher has accepted the dissertation for printing, the dean will provide the candidate with the doctoral degree certificate. In the document certifying publication, the publisher commits to printing the dissertation in the stipulated period of time.
  2. The certificate contains the title of the dissertation, the mark of the dissertation and the mark for the disputation, as well as the final mark. The certificate contains the date of the disputation, which itself counts as the date of the completion of study. It will be provided with a stamped seal and will be signed by the dean.
  3. After reception of the certificate, the doctoral candidate has the right to use the corresponding academic title.
