Rahimah A. Hamid was born in Alor Setar, Kedah Darul Aman but her primary education and secondary education was in Bentung and Raub, Pahang Darul Makmur because her family lived there. Rahimah attended a course for Creative Writing Certificate at Universiti Sains Malaysia [USM] in the years 1991-1992 and passed as the best student. After completing her studies at Bachelor level in the field of literature in 1996, Rahimah worked as a Language Planning Officer in Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Kuala Lumpur. While in DBP Rahimah was offered by USM a scholarship to continue her studies at Masters (MA) and Doctoral (Ph.D) level. Rahimah obtained her Masters in Creative Writing in the year 2000. In the year 2001 Rahimah was sent by USM to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London for academic exposure to fulfill the requirements for her Ph.D. Rahimah obtained her Ph.D in the field of comparative literature in 2004.

 

Now Rahimah is a senior lecturer in the Literature Department, School of Humanities, USM. Rahimah is also a principal for Desasiswa Restu since 2007.

 

In the writing field Rahimah involved in the writing of essays and criticisms, poetry, short stories, drama scripts and novels. So far she has produced a number of short stories, poetry, drama scripts for television and stage. She has also thus far, produced more than a 100 essays and criticisms which are to be presented in conferences and seminars. Some of them have been published in magazines, books and prosiding in the country and also overseas. Rahimah has also published two books they are Buku Modul Pimpin Siswa, 2010 (together with Khairul Eruwan Abdul Halim), and another book titled Fiksyen Pascakolonial: Yang Menjajah dan Dijajah, 2010, published by DBP. Rahimah also shares her expertise with others through workshops on creative writing held by Northern Part DBP and Eastern Part DBP. Other than that she also handles an Ongoing Creative Writing Course in the School of Distance Learning USM.
