Dr. Sarah Oelsner: Managing partner at Scitaris, a pharma and biotech R&D consulting

More Information about Dr. Sarah Oelsner (Scitaris):
Sarah started her career with studying Pharmacy at the University of Heidelberg, and Molecular Genetics in Zaragoza, Spain. As she has always been curious to understand the biopharma industry from different perspectives, she worked for several years as a hospital and community pharmacist and later moved on to join the department of Immunology & Respiratory Diseases at the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR), Basel. Driven by her passion for translational research, Sarah dedicated her PhD to Immuno-Oncology where she developed various novel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-modified lymphocytes in the group of Prof. Winfried Wels at the Georg-Speyer-Haus in Frankfurt.
She then moved into strategy consulting for several years, which made her notice the often limited science-driven decision-making in the biotech/pharma industry. This led Sarah and 2 other colleagues to found Scitaris in April 2019 – a boutique R&D life science strategy consultancy based in Berlin & Boston. The unifying conviction at Scitaris is that in the complex world of biopharma R&D, deep scientific and clinical understanding drive all viable business strategies and are crucial to successfully bring value to patients, drug developers and society.
Scitaris today has grown to a team of 25 international PhD scientists supporting biopharma companies in the US and Europe from answering focused strategic and technical questions around single assets to full-blown portfolio management and corporate strategy. Sarah will provide an overview of the range of projects Scitaris is working on and what expects you when moving from academia to aconsulting career.

Das Biologie-Grundstudium absolvierte Dr. Anna Graef in Gießen, dann zog es sie fürs weitere Studium in Zellbiologie und Physiologie nach Frankfurt, mit anschließender Promotion in molekularer Endokrinologie an der Uniklinik Frankfurt. 2018 setzte sie einen Kurs als Life Science Management- und QM-Berater drauf und begann 2019 bei einer CRO für Medizinprodukte als Projektmanagerin in Lörrach im Grenzgebiet zu Basel. 1 Jahr später erfolgte der Wechsel zu einem deutsch/schweizer Clinical Supplies Unternehmen dass sich ganz auf die Zulieferung für klinische Studien spezialisiert hat. Hier ist sie zunächst als Senior Projektmanager und im weiteren Verlauf zusätzlich als Leiter der Herstellung tätig. Nach 1.5 Jahren Elternzeit ist sie im April 2023 halbtags zu ihrer dieser Stelle zurückgekehrt und kann aus erster Hand vom Spagat zwischen Elternschaft und Karriere berichten. Bei ihr kann man erfahren, wie man sich die Organisation der Medikation für eine klinische Studie vorzustellen hat und wie die Schnittstelle zwischen Pharma und Patient funktioniert.
