Geographical location/Lokalisierung
“Tappeh Balu” is located in the province of West Azerbaijan, 7 km north of Urmia city, in the western part of Urmia Lake (Fig 2). It is 215 x 160 x 18 m and about 438 m above sea level. Its geographical location between the Iranian Plateau and Anatolia, in the middle of the network and trade route from the Caucasus to the Zagros area foreground the essential role it played as an interface between Anatolia in the west, the Iranian Plateau in the east, the Caucasus in the north, and Zagros in the south.
